In recent years, the causes and effects of climatic and environmental changes in the world have brought the concept of sustainability to the forefront and ensuring sustainability has begun to be discussed with many dimensions. Sustainability, in its most general definition, is meeting the needs of current generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Our company, Brio Europe, supports sustainability by considering these changes in the world, and determines company policies in this direction by taking into account the social and environmental dimensions as well as economic sustainability. Our priority is to provide good working conditions and development opportunities to our employees in the social dimension, the focal point of which is “human”, and to make environmentally friendly production in the ecological dimension.
There is a general consensus that the world's resources and the environment are moving towards the limit of depletion as a result of human activities. Therefore, sustainability is also perceived as ecology and the ability of ecological systems to maintain their functions, processes and productivity in the future. The concept of sustainability has mostly been handled with economic concepts. Therefore, the concept of sustainability has often been used similarly or synonymously with sustainable development. In the definition of the World Commission on Environment and Development, the concept of sustainable development is expressed as “meeting the human needs of the present without sacrificing the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. Sustainability can be handled under three sub-headings: social, ecological and economic. Social sustainability can be defined as meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. From an ecological point of view, it can be said that sustainability can only be achieved by using the resources offered by nature at a speed that allows them to be regenerated spontaneously. It is necessary to exhibit behaviors that can keep the environment in its most natural state in interaction with the environment and to engage in activities to recycle the ecological environment that is damaged or destroyed as a result of human activities. From an economic point of view, it can be defined as turning to renewable resources in the production process by considering the concept of sustainable development, being responsible for the effects of production activity on the environment, and managing production processes in accordance with these effects.
